Junior Great Books 2018 STUDENT SIGN UP
Junior Great Books (JGB) for students in Grades 2-4 will meet once a week starting in February, for six sessions. During this enrichment class, students will discuss a story, learn new vocabulary words, and play a game or participate in an activity related to the story. The use of Shared Inquiry discussion during class helps improve reading comprehension and critical thinking. Weekly readings (which are done at home) will be from the Junior Great Books texts provided. These are typically folk or fairy tales from around the world. Stories are short, and should take no more than 30 minutes to read at home.
JGB classes will meet as follows:
Grades 2 & 3: Tuesday during lunch from 11:25 am -12:15 pm
February 13, 20, 27, March 6, 13, 20
Grades 4: Thursdays during lunch from 11:25 am -12:15 pm
February 15, 22, March 1, 8, 15, 22
Students should bring a peanut-free lunch and drink every week. We will celebrate with a pizza party during the last class! (Please provide a drink for your child, even if you regularly have them purchase milk from school. It saves the instructors a lot of time when children are not scooting back to the gym to get milk!)
Cost of the class is $35 per child, which includes the book, materials and pizza party.
SIGN UP FOR JUNIOR GREAT BOOK WILL CLOSE ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 2018.
