The Junior Great Books program combines high-quality literature, student-centered discussion and activities that support reading comprehension, critical thinking, speaking and listening and writing. Each week, the children read an assigned story from a grade-level book selected by the Great Books Foundation. Then, students meet on a weekly basis for a group discussion about the assigned story. The Madison Junior Great Books enrichment program – sponsored by the PTO – is available for 2nd through 5th grade students and run by parent volunteers. We are looking two volunteers per grade level (2nd through 5th grade) to lead the book discussions.
The program will be run from March 2 through April 17, with six, 30-minute meetings. Due to the food restriction mandated by the district, Junior Great Books will be held before school and/or after school.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email Megan Mikhail by January 22 at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions and the following information:
2) grade level(s) choice(s)
3) your preference of before or after school
4) your preferred days of the week
