Future Sixth Grade Parent Night
On Tuesday, May 24th, at 6 PM, Hinsdale Middle School will be hosting a “Future 6th Grade Parent Night” to welcome you to HMS, answer questions, and provide information about our school. Please enter on the parking deck side, and join us in the cafetorium for a half hour overview of our school. Unfortunately, the building will not be open for touring this evening, and bringing your 5th grader is optional.

Last Day of Kindergarten
The last day of PM kindergarten will be on Tuesday, May 31. The PM students will come at their usual time in the afternoon. AM kindergarten will NOT attend on Tuesday, May 31.

The last day of AM kindergarten students will be on Wednesday, June 1. Dismissal on June 1 is 11:40. We will begin lining up for the fifth grade clap out around 11:30 outside the kindergarten doors. PM kindergarten students are welcome to join us in the front of the school by the kindergarten doors at 11:30 with an adult to celebrate the fifth graders.

Fifth Grade Clap Out
The last day of school at Madison traditionally ends with the Fifth Grade Clap Out. All students exit the front of the building by the kindergarten classrooms and line the sidewalk as fifth graders leave Madison for the last time. Music is played and all of the students clap and cheer as the fifth graders exit the building and walk down the sidewalk. We are so excited that we will once again be able to do this at Madison!

Please note that all children will exit through the front of the building on June 1. Following the clap out, students will be dismissed to go home. Please complete this form so we know if you will be meeting your child in front of school or if they will be walking home on their own. The classroom teachers will have a list of students walking home by themselves and those who need to wait for someone to walk home with them. Please make sure you talk with your child about how they are getting home on June 1.

You are welcome to join us at 11:30 in the front of the building. PM kindergarten students accompanied by an adult are also welcome to join us in the front of the school at 11:30. We will have signs indicating where each grade level will be standing.

We look forward to celebrating a wonderful school year and a fantastic group of fifth graders!

Tech Tips from the MRC
With the school year winding down, it’s important to plan ahead for technology use during the summer. Please help your child(ren) remember their school iPad is for educational purposes, not a personal device. They have learned how to use a variety of online resources this year and the iPad can make practicing some skills more engaging.

More time out of school can lead to more time on a screen. Help coach your child(ren) to actively pay attention to how they are using technology and how it makes them feel. Here are a few questions you can ask to open these conversations:
Do they feel energized or lonely after playing video games?
Do they feel good or bad about themselves after being online?
Did they miss sleep, or a chance to interact with friends or family in person because of technology?
