CogAT Testing (Grades 2 and 5)
Second and Fifth grade students will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) during the week of November 5th-9th. Specific testing dates and times will be listed on the Madison calendar. Please see below for more information and let us know if you have any questions regarding this assessment.

CogAT is a series of three tests (Verbal, Quantitative, and Non-Verbal). The CogAT provides information on the level of development of general and specific cognitive skills of students. The primary purpose of the CogAT is to provide a description of the student’s own cognitive resources for learning that educators can use to help the student achieve instructional objectives. This information will also be used to help with placement decisions.

There is no need to ask your child to study for this test. It is a measure of cognitive ability and thinking skills. The best way to support your child’s efforts is to encourage him/her to get a good night’s sleep prior to testing days and to eat a healthy breakfast the morning of a testing session.

Halloween at Madison – Wednesday, October 31st
All festivities will begin after lunch on Halloween – Wednesday, October 31st. Morning kindergarten students are invited to wear their costumes in the morning and join us back at school at 12:25 to participate in the school parade. Our parade will begin at 12:40 p.m. We will have two special kindergarten guests leading the school parade!

1st-5th grade students are encouraged to go home for lunch so they can change into their costumes. We will have lunchroom supervisors available for students who are not able to go home to ensure students are able to eat and change into their costumes.

Parade/Party Times:
The Halloween Parade will begin at 12:40 p.m. Please make every effort to get your child(ren) back promptly by 12:20, as the parade will not begin until all student attendance has been taken by all of our teachers. We exit the west exterior entrance from the gymnasium using the sidewalk to walk around the path going behind the Community House, and proceed to the sidewalk along our parking lot, and enter the back gymnasium doors. In the event of inclement weather, we will notify you that morning of any changes to our route.

Our All-School Meeting will begin directly following the parade (around 1:10 p.m.) Parents are invited to observe the parade and/or attend the All School Meeting. Class parties will follow at approximately 2:15 p.m.

Please help us ensure a fun and festive day by helping your child(ren) select and wear costumes that are appropriate for school. We ask that students not wear costumes that are gruesome, have weapons, or include full face masks which hinder visibility.

Classroom Party Treats:
Nestle’s Outshine (frozen) Fruit Bars – Tangerine will be served in the classroom during the Halloween Party on Wednesday, October 31st. The ingredient list can be found at

We look forward to a fun and festive day! Please feel free to contact the office or your child’s classroom teacher should you have any questions or concerns!
